A mixed bag of fishing for Kwelera Ski Boat Club
By John Luef
Kwelera Ski Boat Club (KSBC) held its monthly deep-sea angling competition on Saturday.
With bad weather prevailing the last couple of months and the prediction of fine weather for this competition, the Kwelera Mouth launch site looked like Oxford Street on a Friday afternoon. No less than 20 boats launched before 7am to enjoy the thrills of deep sea angling.
The fishing turned up a mixed bag with cold water in the shallows causing the fish to have “lockjaw” and the boats fishing in the shallows not having any good catches.
On the other hand all the boats venturing deeper and to the shelf where water temperatures were much higher, all recording exceptional catches. The catch of the day was a rare Three Tooth Pufferfish caught by Shaun Gerricke.
RESULTS: Top boats: 1st Dutchie (Kobus Koekemoer) 2nd White Knuckles (John Luef) 3rd Cost a Plenty (Theo Viljoen). Top anglers: 1st Richard Muller 2nd Kobus Koekemoer 3rd Andrew Harris top ladies: 1st Jacky Fanthom 2nd Adele Lunt 3rd Riske Dreyer.
