Africa Netball Cup win
Eastern Cape born netball player and mother, Phumza Maweni (34) was a crucial member of the Proteas team that ruthlessly defeated all opponents to clinch the Africa Netball Cup for the third time, in Cape Town.
Maweni, a goalkeeper and goal defender, played in the 2019 World Cup and the Commonwealth Games. The Proteas, the number one team in the continent and fourth in the World, claimed victory over Lesotho, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya and Zambia.
With South Africa hosting the 2023 World Cup, Maweni would like to defeat big teams such as Australia or New Zealand. After retirement she plans to do development coaching in the rural areas.
