BCM to meet with East Bank residents
The Buffalo City Metro leadership is expected to hold public engagements will the affected parties in the Fynbos/East Bank RDP Housing crises today (Friday). The engagements will be held in the East Bank area.
Over 15 houses were burnt following a clash between illegal occupiers that were evicted by police and the BCMM Law enforcement and the rightful beneficiaries of some 600 houses this week.
The Metro has called for calmness and has since deployed a strong police contingent from all over the province in what has now been declared a crime scene. 300 families have been left homeless after the Metro obtained a second court order for evictions.
“The City’s political leadership met with its administration and the South African Police Service on Thursday in order to find ways of resolving the impasse. The City is also condemning all acts of violence and the destruction of property, saying that a humane solution will be found on the matter,” said spokesperson Samnkelo Ngwenya.
