Bodybuilder realizes he needs to work harder to be the best
East London’s Renaldo Booysen (18) came second in the Physical Culture Association South Africa’s Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships held in Johannesburg recently.
In order to qualify for the championships, Booysen had to compete in the Border Queens Grand Prix competition held in Queenstown last month.
After the competition he says he has realised that he needs to work harder to be the best. “I feel great to have been part of the competition and I am happy to have come second, but I definitely have to work harder,” said Booysen.
“Shortly after my victory at the Queens Grand Prix, I was informed that I had made it through to the SA championships where I competed as a member of the Border team. I was very excited and felt like I took a step closer to becoming the best bodybuilder,” said Booysen.
Founder of Els Bodybuilding Club, Elwin Pretorius expressed his happiness and pride that one of his young members was chosen for such a prestigious competition.
“I am very happy that Renaldo was given the opportunity to compete, because he will motivate more young people. He just so happens to be the youngest bodybuilder that I have produced,” said Pretorius.
Pretorius started his gym 31 years ago with the intention of getting the youth off the streets and give them something worth doing.
“I started the gym because there were no facilities in the area that could positively engage the youth, so I took it upon myself to create a safe environment that would keep them away from the bad aspects of today’s world,” said Pretorius.
In preparation of the competition, Booysen trained for two hours, six days a week. He boasted about how Pretorius’ coaching has helped him to be where he is today. Booysen further expressed his gratitude to his friends and family for their support during his preparation period. Pretorius said he is “very proud of Booysen even though he didn’t win first place, the fact that he made it to the SA national championships is an accomplishment in itself”.
