Buffs marathon winners 2020

Luthando Hejana was the first male runner to cross the finish line of the Buffs Marathon.

Luthando Hejana, an athlete from Old Mutual was crowned the winner of the 47th Jumbo Buffs Marathon on Sunday, March 1. Hejana impressively covered his 42km in 2:18:27 after leading from the start. There were tears of joy and heart-warming embraces between him and his partner on Sunday morning at the Buffalo Athletics Club.


The ever improving Malixole Kalideni of Old Selbornians made a personal best of 2:21:14. In third was Mcoseleli Luyabo of Cheetahs at 2:26:46 and in fourth place, it was Johannesburg's Neil Massey in 2:28:55. Fikile Mbuthuma from the Nedbank Club in Port Elizabeth triumphed with a strong finish in 2:58:03. Samantha Bieske of Wanderers came second with a personal best of 3:00:10. Easy Equities Born 2 Run duo of Caryn Lategan and her sister Lauren Ranger came third and fourth with times of 3:01:37 and 3:02:46 respectively.


The half marathon was won by BRAC's Bulelani Mgubo in 72:37 and he was followed home by Lulamile Danile, Sipamandla Dumazake and Thabang Marcus. The women's race was won in 91:00 by Melanie Elsdon of Oxford Striders with the Easy Equities Born 2 Run trio of Unetsie Steenberg, Jamie Griffiths and Jessica Blundell all chasing to the finish.
