Cantata: Decades of choral entertainment
The Cantata choir was formed in the early 1970s, with a group of singers wanting to provide cultural musical entertainment for the local community. Since then, the non-profit organisation has given many free concerts of secular and sacred music over the past years with Dr Bruce Johnson as the choir director, accompanist and conductor for eleven years.
This choir presents three programmes per annum, an Easter presentation, a mid-year programme of lighter music and a Christmas Cantata or programme.
“The main aim is to give people who enjoy singing the opportunity to perform as part of an organised group while giving pleasure to those who attend our concerts,” said Yvonne Daniels, Cantata Choir secretary.
Dr Johnson has the ability and patience to teach the members in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Practise takes place every Monday between 5pm and 6.30pm in the Music Room at Hudson Park High School.
At present, the choir has 45 members in the four Voice sections and is always happy to welcome anyone who would like to join them. Anyone wanting further information is welcome to Yvonne Daniels, on 043 735 1182 or 082 878 2079.
