Charged for discharging firearm in Mdantsane

Economic Freedom Fighter commander Julius Malema and his bodyguard Adriaan Snyman were charged with discharging of a firearm in public at the East London Magistrate Court on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.


Malema and Snyman fired a rifle while on stage at an EFF rally in July 2019 at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane.


Malema faces five counts; unlawful possession of firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging of a firearm in a built-up area or any public place, failure to take reasonable precaution to persons or property and reckless endangerment to persons or property. 


Snyman faces two charges of failure to take reasonable precautions to avoid danger to person or property and providing a firearm/ammunition to any person not allowed to be in possession of it.


 “The case has been postponed to February 24, 2020, for the state to provide the defence with docket contents and the video footage,” said Luxolo Tyali, regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority.
