Cop shoots girlfriend and her mother


The lifeless body of a woman cast a sombre figure on the roadside in Wilsonia after she and her mother were shot by a cop believed to be her boyfriend this afternoon (Friday). The 25-year old died on the scene while her mother was rushed to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body.


Police have launched a man-hunt after the suspect, identified as a Tactical Response Team (TRT) police officer fled the scene when an off-duty police officer arrived.


Spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Sontaga Seisa, said, It is alleged that the motive of the killing is a domestic dispute between the couple.

“Immediately after this incident, the suspect drove his vehicle towards Port Elizabeth,” said

Seisa.


A white Golf GTi was found abandoned close by the scene after it crashed on a field nearby where the woman’s body was found.


Traumatised family members consoled each other after identifying the woman on scene.

Captain Hazel Mqala, spokesperson for the East London SAPS said, “We cannot at this stage

confirm who the vehicle belongs to, and how the 25-year-old ended up so far from where

her mother was found with serious injuries,” she said.
