EC designers to be mentored by international designer
Internationally acclaimed designer Palesa Mokubung of Mantsho (Black is Beautiful) will be imparting her fashion knowledge together with industry veteran Fred Eboka on October 10 and 11 during the annual Buyel’ekhaya Fashion Development Workshop at The Miriam Makeba Centre of Performing Arts.
One hundred aspirant Eastern Cape designers will present their creative portfolios and ten successful young aspirants will be beneficiaries of a 10- day mentorship programme with Mokubung at her Johannesburg studios from October 21 to November 1, 2019.
Mantsho is the first African design house to collaborate with international retail giant H&M to take her brand to the world. The limited 14-piece collection range is available in 61 stores globally, in 11 countries, on 48 online stores globally and 26 stores nationwide.
The selected ten designers will come back to show off their work at the Buyel’ekhaya Fashion Show alongside heavy hitters such as House of Eboka, Mantsho, @maxosa, Lindiwe Sithole and @imprint_za at East London’s Hemingway’s Mall on December 13.
Mantsho has graced numerous runways of the world such as Milan, New York, Brazil, Greece, Sweden, Nigeria, Senegal and Ethiopia. She will be the lead designer for the Sun Met 2020 which is Africa’s richest horse racing event. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award at Free State Fashion Week.
