EL’s investment guru Allan Gray dies at 81
Founder of the investment firm Allan Gray died on Sunday, November 10 from natural causes.
In a statement released by the firm, the said, "Our first thoughts are with his family, and with them, as colleagues and friends, we are mourning the passing of a man who made an immeasurable impact on many lives as an entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist. He has earned his rest."
Gray is a BComm graduate from Rhodes University and was born in Buffalo City in 1938. He received an MBA from Harvard in 1965, and completed the newly-introduced Chartered Financial Analyst programme, becoming the first CFA charter holder in South Africa.
He returned to South Africa and started his own investment firm, Allan Gray Investment Counsel in 1973.
