Entrepreneurship to inspire
Updated: Aug 27, 2019
In 2019, the Eastern Cape recorded the highest unemployment rate at 46.5% with women being the most affected.
The East London Start-up Grind seeks to become a refuge for ideas to develop, inspire and connect start-ups in ways that will grow their businesses.
In existence for ten months, this month, the East London Start-up Grind pays homage to Women’s Month by hosting two powerful businesswomen, Founder and CEO of Iingcinga Investments Thandi Mbete and PricewaterhouseCoopers Director, Jacqui Mauer.
The fireside chat will delve into issues that affect South African issues where entrepreneurship is concerned. The EL startup, Grind is part of the largest global independent community which actively seeks to educate, inspire and connect over two million entrepreneurs in over 600 chapters. The initiative was founded in Silicon Valley and has helped millions of entrepreneurs build their businesses, connect with strategic partners and secure funding.
The East London Start-up Grind houses local entrepreneurs that engage in frank dialogues about the industry they are venturing into.
Previously the Grind has invited speakers such as Mqondisi Goba, an Enterprise Development Specialist, former Daily Dispatch Editor Sibusiso Ngalwa and Unathi September, founder of Inspire Foundation Group and Lindile Xoko, General Manager for SMEs at MTN Business.
Now in East London with the hopes of doing the same, Chapter Director of the East London Start-up Grind, Vuyo Ngcwaiba says, “We started this Grind as we saw that there was a need create a supportive global ecosystem for East London based entrepreneurs. We found a gap in providing and facilitating development and support for local entrepreneurs offering them exposure to local and global markets and other opportunities”.
The foundation of this community is through monthly events featuring successful local founders, innovators, educators and investors whose lessons learned on the road to building great companies are dissected.
The session will be hosted at Second Office in Vincent on August 29.
