100-bed Covid-19 facility for Bhisho Hospital
A desperate plea from Sister Phumla Myanda, CEO of Bhisho Hospital was met with immediate relief by Gift of the Givers Foundation recently.
"We are desperate to set up the ward for Covid-19 cases, we are now one of the main dedicated facilities for Covid-19 cases in the Eastern Cape, we need beds, screens, window tinting, and PPE's, it's urgent!" expressed Sister Phumla.
Whilst carrying out the R10 million renovation at Mitchell's Plain Hospital to set up a 60-bed Covid-19 facility, Gift of the Givers promised Sister Phumla that a similar facility will be provided at Bhisho Hospital.
Fortunately, the renovation, which is still ongoing, is being carried out by the Department of Public Works and Gift of the Givers were able to deliver the final consignment of 100 beds, 100 mattresses, and 200 pillows to Bhisho Hospital recently.
"Sister Phumla has been very active in procuring the extra staff to manage the 100-bed dedicated Covid-19 facility, once again proof of success in a joint public-private partnership," said Ali Sablay, from Gift of the Givers, Western Cape.
He added that the Foundation has commenced with the delivery of various PPE to 30 hospitals in the Eastern Cape, which is in addition to the support it has already given these health facilities since the beginning of Lockdown.
"We are grateful to corporate South Africa for the ongoing support that has made it possible to intervene decisively in Covid-19 nationally," he concluded.
