Housing made available for IDZ precinct workers

Over 603 apartments will available for occupation in February 2020 at Oceanview, a Social Housing Project, in Westbank, close to the Airport.

The project seeks to build high quality affordable apartments to assist local workers and families in the Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) vicinity.

The project, valued at R170 million, was meant to be completed on February 2018.

The project is developed by Hlalanathi Housing Association and the Mpfumelelo Business Enterprise is the home builder.

The flats overlook the ocean in a scenic corner of the Westbank. Some flats will be sold and some are strictly for rental. This falls under the Department of Human Settlements, as a way to develop quality human settlements for dignified social and economic livelihoods and human development.

“The Oceanview housing development is a large-scale housing initiative to eliminate the cost of commuting and providing secure housing that is safe, beautiful and located in some of the scenic areas of the Buffalo City Metro. During the 2018/19 financial year, 9 881 units were completed and the target for 2020 is 9 350, ” said spokesperson for Human Settlemts, Masiza Mazizi.
