Learners raise R38,836 for St Bernard's

A learner asked why do you do the Copper Drive every year? I replied, simply to help raise much-needed funding for our unique model of Home-Based Palliative Care and Support for patients (both adult and children) suffering from a life-threatening or life-limiting illness.

We are often asked what palliative care is? It simply means the management of pain and other distressing symptoms, thus enhancing the quality of life of the patient that may positively influence the course of the illness.

St Bernard’s Hospice team delivered 214 bottles to the following schools in the second term; Advance for Life Christian Centre, Beaconhurst School, Centre of Excellence, Clarendon Girls High, Clarendon Girls Primary, George Randell High School, Gonubie Primary School, Grens High School, Grens Primary School, Hudson Park High School, Kidd’s Beach Primary School, New Generation Primary School, Southernwood Primary, Selborne College and Stirling Primary School.

These 15 schools were able to contribute R38 836.88 towards the care and support of our patients. Well done to each and every school, in our eyes each school is a winner, and should be very proud to have participated in an initiative like this to help look after sick patients in our very own Buffalo City community!

The school to collect the most coins was Stirling Junior School and they collected R18 484.35. They received a “Parrot A4 Guillotine and a Parrot A4 Laminator” donated by Elite Stationers, thank you.

Thank you once again to all Learners, Principals, Teachers, Parents and Guardians who made the Copper Drive once again a success story and hopefully we will have more schools on board in 2020. When we all help a little, the little becomes a lot.
