Locals ready for Ironman 70.3
As the Buffalo City hosts one of the longest-running middle distance races in the country, Ironman 70.3 race on January 26, two-time Ironman World Champion, Eastern Cape born and bred local, elite internationally accomplished athlete Kyle Buckingham will be hoping to finish at the top.
Used by many of the top athletes as a training event for the full Standard Bank Ironman Africa Championship that takes place at the end of March in Port Elizabeth, they would all like a podium finish.
Buckingham started running and cycling at the age of 24, and has gone on to win multiple Ironman events, a two-time Ironman World Champion in his age-group and has qualified seven times for the World Championships in Kona.
The race offers 65 qualifying slots for the 2020 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in New Zealand comprising of 40 age group slots plus 25 qualifying slots for the Women for Tri-initiative. South Africa is the official African TriClub Champions.
