Nene’s alleged killer's new rape case
Luyanda Botha (42), charged with the rape and murder of Uyinene Mrwetyana, has been charged with an additional case of rape at the Wynberg Magistrate Court today (Tuesday).
Magistrate Goolam Bawa has also officially allowed the media to name and use images of Botha, the former Post Office employee who confessed to the murder and rape of East London teenager.
According to Eric Ntabazilele, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority in the Western Cape the investigation against Botha has been completed and his case has been transferred to the Western Cape High Court. The trial is expected to start on November 15, 2019.
“His defence team requested a postponement to this Thursday in order to consult with him. He will be formally charged on Thursday and more information will be given about this new rape case,” said Ntabazilele.
Botha, originally from uCentane, indicated that he will not be applying for bail. His Khayelitsha home was burnt by locals shortly after he confessed to the murder in August.
