Ngcobo soldier burnt to death in boot of car
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) announced the death of Ngquthura village born Sergeant Mawande Njomane (41) who was found burnt in the boot of a state vehicle in Cape Town on Sunday.
Subsequently, a 15-year-old boy was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) in connection with the death of Njomane. His severely burnt body was discovered by the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue team who attended to the burning vehicle.
The teenager is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate Court on charges of murder, kidnapping and hijacking. According to SANDF spokesperson, Brigadier Mafi Mgobozi, Njomane has been missing since August 16.
“We are saddened by this revelation that our soldier and staff sergeant was murdered in this manner. He is survived by a wife and four children,” said Mgobozi.
His memorial service will be held in Pretoria this Thursday and he will be buried at his home village in Ngcobo this Saturday.
