Nicolette wins Silver in Judo Championships
Nicolette Botha (nee Venter) won Gold in her division at the South African Open Judo Championships earlier this year in Vanderbijl Park, Gauteng.
As a result of this fine performance, she was selected as part of the South African contingent to represent Judo SA at the Commonwealth Judo Championships in England which took place at Walsall University in Birmingham, England from September 25 to 29th.
Contestants from all the commonwealth countries competed for the honours.
Competing in the 78kgs plus Masters Division Botha was up against Victoria Lamb of England for top honours in her division. The fight was scheduled to be a best out of three affairs but Botha sustained a serious hamstring injury during the fight and was unable to complete the contest. Lamb was accordingly awarded gold by ippon and Botha received silver.
The South African team performed admirably securing two gold medals, three silver and five bronze. Botha is a past pupil of Hudson Park High from where she matriculated in 2000.
