Premier Mabuyane welcomes payment of R88 Million UIF to EC workers
Updated: May 1
The Premier of the Eastern Cape Province, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane welcomes the payment of more than R88 million of the UIF benefits by the Department of Employment and Labour to 21 676 workers of the province since the beginning of the national lockdown.
These normal UIF benefits payments are in addition to the payment of COVID-19 Temporary Employee/ Employer Relief Scheme to the tune of R4 109 434 596.70 nationally with provincial employers and employees benefiting.
The UIF payments were made as part of government’s plan to provide relief to the workers affected by the national lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Premier Mabuyane strongly believes that the continued payment of normal UIF benefits and the COVID-19 Temporary Employee/Employer Relief Scheme from the Unemployment Insurance Fund to the workers in the province is easing the burden on the workers at the time of need.
Premier Mabuyane calls on the companies from the province that are yet to apply for the COVID-19 Temporary Employee/Employer Relief Scheme for their workers to make these applications soon on https://uifecc.labour.gov.za/covid19 so that all the workers of the province can benefit from this programme created by government for the workers.
Premier Mabuyane is making a plea to employers who are not complying with the UIF to comply for the benefit of their workers who need these funds in times like these.
