President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that he will be attending the funeral service of murdered East London teenager Uyinene Mrwetyana (19) on Saturday in East London.

Addressing thousands of angry students outside parliament today (Thursday), Ramaphosa assured that Mrwetyana will get the justice she deserves.

“I will be with the family on Saturday to show compassion, care and solidarity. I stand before you with a deep feeling. The killing of women must end,” he said.

The President also assured that resolutions from the 2018 Gender based Summit will be implemented with immediate effect. He also assured that he will increase funding and aid for women and children shelters to ensure that they prove a safe haven.

“Today parliament will discuss measures to deal with the perpetrators.”
